I have just been watching the news and catching up on what is happening aboard the capsized Italian cruise ship. What a dreadful disaster – how awful to see that huge ship lying like a beached whale on its side,
Two things occur to me. The first is that these floating blocks of flats must surely be top heavy. although admittedly I think this is the first time such a disaster has happened to such a cruise ship. They are too big and there are too many people aboard. Having spent a week on one a couple of years ago I am very much against them. My preference is for small cruise ships and last summer David and I enjoyed a wonderful cruise round the Scottish isles aboard a ship with only a couple of hundred passengers. Very comfortable and homely.
The second thing that occurs to me is the irony of such an unusual disaster happening in the century year of the sinking of ‘”Titanic”
