There are cards in the shops Christmas ones I mean. Pictures of robins, stars and snow Among the ones that I have seen. I have to tell myself to remember It is actually still only September.
Gimmicky gifts are in the stores, Presents for a woman or man. Teapots shaped like Marmite jars, Y-fronts in a can. And I find it hard to remember It is actually still only September.
Toys are on sale in shiny boxes, Placed to catch the children’s eye. Things to wind up, plug in or squeeze, All to tempt kiddies passing by. I find it really hard to remember It is actually still olnly September.
October, November, the range grows wider, More gifts appear on the shelves. Lights for the tree, and big glossy glass balls, Paper chains to make for yourselves. And the last minute presents I need to remember? Well, they’ve all gone when it gets to December.
Good poem and I loved the twist at the end. 🙂
