Memories

The smell of grass newly mown,                                                                                                         Sweet wood-smoke from the bonfire blown.

Heady pefmle of hothouse flowers,                                                                                                   Earthy scent from April showers.

Salty seaweed smelling of brine,                                                                                                         The rich bouquet of fine old wine.

Bacon sizzling on the hob,                                                                                                                   Fresh bread in the baker’s shop.

Steaming coffee in the pot,                                                                                                                 The milky scent of a babe in its cot.

Washing dried on a windy line,                                                                                                           Sweet eucalyptus, refreshing pine.

Vintage locomotive’s evocative smell,                                                                                               Memories of perfumes known so well.
